This PDF tells the story of an event that happened to a group of students in Berkeley, California , and how they moved in an instant from an involvement with individualism, hierarchy and rational modes of thought to a collective experience of mutual power and responsibility. The short story has a direct bearing on the theory and practice of Engaged Learning and discusses related issues of learning styles, preferred representational systems and multiple intelligences.

In addition, I am including here a copy of a presentation I gacve at Miami University in Oxford, Ihio in 2009. Maori Learning Styles. It suggests that different learning styles ared heavily mediated by culture and the laying on of  a Eurocentric understanding of learning behaviours can and does do irreperable damage to students from other, subordinated cultures.
