This essay interrogates the failure of Marxism to inspire the world overthrow of capitalism. It documents the history of Marxism in the Russian revolution and explores the silenced Marxist voices that might have initiated a true Revolution. It locates the emergence of Postmodernism within this historical framework, building upon the work of the Frankfurt School and their emergent conception of Culture. Taking a critical look at the orthodox Marxist conception the Base-Superstructure dichotomy, as well as the depoliticised conception of culture, I investigate its emancipatory potential when reunited and integrated with issues of Class, Race and Gender.
